Commander Of Bin Laden Raid: Revoke My Security Clearance Too, Trump

In revoking Brennan's clearance, Trump on Wednesday accused the former Central Intelligence Agency director, one of his most outspoken critics, of making "a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations - wild outbursts on the internet and television - about this Administration".

In a statement, Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C., cited a New York Times op-ed published Thursday, after Brennan's security was revoked, in which Brennan wrote that Trump's claims of no collusion were "hogwash", saying the only remaining questions were whether the collusion amounted to a criminal conspiracy and whether the Trump team obstructed justice in order to cover up the collusion Brennan alleged.

Trump, often critical of the Mueller investigation, told the newspaper it is a "rigged witch hunt. a sham".

But she did not present any evidence that Brennan has actually ever mishandled classified information.

"I don't think it advances the criminal obstruction case, but I think it's factually relevant", said Mark Zaid, a national security attorney.

"Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency".

"So I think it's something that had to be done", he said.

But at least two other Republicans were in favour of Trump's action.

Trump's decision to revoke a former top intelligence chief's clearance marked an unprecedented use of a president's authority over the classification system to strike back at one of his prominent critics.

On Wednesday, Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that the White House has made a decision to revoke former CIA Director John Brennan's security clearance.

"The White House just messaged the entire American intelligence community", Hayden said. "And that is a terrible message to be sending to folks who are there to tell you objective truth". After Trump's attack this week on former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman, Brennan tweeted that the president failed "to live up to minimum standards of decency, civility, and probity".

Brennan called Trump's behavior at a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin "nothing short of treasonous". Trump's statement, distributed to reporters, was dated July 26, 2018, suggesting it could have been held and then released when needed to change a damaging subject.

There was no reference to the Russian Federation probe in a White House statement Wednesday that was read at a press briefing and then sent out to reporters.
