The Boring Company Plans to Drill a Tunnel to Dodger Stadium

The Boring Company, which is one of the Tesla and SpaceX chief's other projects, already has a test tunnel in nearby Hawthorne and has won a bid for an underground shuttle service between O'Hare Airport and downtown Chicago. Then it would connect to the Red Line through three alternative routes that would terminate in either Los Feliz, East Hollywood or Rampart Village.

Dubbed the Dugout Loop, the company boasts the proposed high-speed rail will transport up to 16 passengers at a time at speeds as high as 150 miles per hour - all with zero emissions and "zero taxpayer dollars".

The fares are not finalized but will cost around $1.

According to Wired, Garcetti said on Wednesday that The Boring Company's Dodger Stadium tunnel, which will be called "The Dugout Loop", is a "great example of public-private partnership". The route's eastern terminus would be on Dodger Stadium property, and the western terminus would be on property purchased by the Boring Company.

The Boring Company did not specify when it plans to start work on the project. The system will only operate during games and special events. The Boring Company says it would be able to transport about 1,400 people per game, pre-selling tickets for trips at an arranged time.

Now, LA local Elon Musk has a plan to help with Dodger Stadium's traffic problem: the Dugout Loop. The company estimates that construction of the required underground tunnel and two loop lifts will take no more than 14 months, but "likely much less".

The company says the so-called Dugout Loop system would be privately funded and not require tax money. The Boring Company will pay for all construction itself, without funding from the city.

The firm said it is also working with several L.A. city agencies and drafting an environmental impact report.

For a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the only thing worse than watching the baseball team lose might be the drive to and from Dodger Stadium. The move is being lauded as something of a green initiative, making it infinitely easier for fans to take public transport to games - quite the feat in a city known for its high density of gas-guzzlers.
