Adrian Peterson set to sign with Washington

On Monday, Washington will reportedly host longtime Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson for a free agent visit. Derrius Guice was lost for the season with a torn ACL, while Samaje Perine (ankle) and Byron Marshall (lower leg) are expected to miss some time.

We spoke with Peterson back in March and asked him if he'd really be cool playing second fiddle at his next stop. and he was adamant he'll do whatever it takes to help a team win.

"I fly in tonight".

#Redskins are signing RB Adrian Peterson, sources tell me and @RapSheet. He started the year with the New Orleans Saints before being released and joining the Arizona Cardinals.

Washington's running back depth has been gutted this preseason. That's where Peterson comes in, though we'll have to see how much he has left in the tank.

Peterson was signed to a one-year deal, according to multiple media reports. The 2012 MVP is 12th all-time in rushing with 12,276 yards and needs 37 to pass Jim Brown. He has added another 2,015 yards receiving.

The 33-year-old finished his stint with Arizona rushing for 448 yards on 129 attempts.

But Peterson's season ended after he suffered a season-ending neck injury in November.

Charles, 31, is a four-time Pro Bowler who has rushed for 7,556 yards and 5.4 yards per carry.

Charles was a two-time first-team All-Pro selection in nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he played sparingly last season with the Denver Broncos.

The Redskins open the regular season September 9 at Arizona. They also have Kapri Bibbs, who could serve in that role.
