Heads of state 'were laughing with me,' not at me, says Trump

Heads of state 'were laughing with me,' not at me, says Trump

Trump had called Kim a "rocket man" bent on nuclear destruction in his United Nations speech previous year.

Rouhani told a wide-ranging news conference that the US decision to pull out of the 2015 nuclear deal in May was "a mistake" because there are no benefits for the people of the United States, Iran, Europe or any other country.

"They weren't laughing at me, they were laughing with me", said Trump during the press conference in NY.

The sanctions are expected to impact Iranian oil exports, which provide Tehran with the revenue needed to finance its national budget.

"I never stop upholding the principle of sovereignty", Macron said.

"The Americans say that by imposing sanctions they want to pressure the government of Iran but in reality with this method they deprive the people of their welfare and right to life", Hatami said, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.

In the aftermath of Donald Trump's announcement to withdraw from the landmark deal curbing Iran's nuclear programme, the leaders of Britain, France and Germany who signed the agreement published a joint statement, saying they will continue to stick by it.

Rouhani said the U.S. sought to use its capacity as chair of the UN Security Council to single out Iran at the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the General Assembly's session, only to face the "reverse effect".

"He also expressed satisfaction over Iran's regional activities and the cooperation on Yemen and Syria", Rouhani continued.

"We have been informed that all European members of [the] Security Council intend to support the nuclear deal and stress the need for remaining committed to its implementation", Araqchi said.

"We tried isolation and it only gave the most conservative forces in Iran more power", she told reporters.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani predicted Wednesday that the United States would eventually rejoin an global nuclear deal, saying talks this week at the United Nations showed his counterpart Donald Trump's isolation.

Rouhani accused the USA of pressuring other countries to violate the nuclear agreement and threatening to punish those who comply with the Security Council resolution endorsing it. But Trump withdrew the USA from it earlier this year and is reimposing sanctions, a message he hammered home as he sat in the Security Council president's seat today.

Some in the audience also grumbled during Trump's remarks when he said "we reject the ideology" of globalism.

'And on behalf of the United States, I'd like to toast to you, and I'd like to toast the United Nations.

President Donald Trump claimed that when world leaders laughed during his speech to the United Nations they were laughing with him, not at him.

The Republicans could lose control of both the Senate and House of Representatives in November's elections, further imperilling Trump's chances of chalking up legislative achievements.

On Wednesday, President Rouhani met with prime ministers of Malaysia, Japan and Italy, and the president of Switzerland.
