NASA astronauts return to Earth amid US-Russia tensions in space

Thursday, October 4, with the worldwide space station (ISS) returns to the Ground 56 expedition. At first there were statements from Russian officials that merely suggested that the hole could have been made deliberately by an astronaut wanting to return home early, but that snowballed into Russian news reports claiming that American astronauts drilled the hole in an act of sabotage.

NASA astronauts Drew Feustel and Ricky Arnold, along with Russian cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, touched down in the steppes of Kazakhstan at 5:44 p.m. local time (4:44 a.m. PT) today, 61 years after Russians sent their Sputnik satellite into space to kick off the U.S.

The Indian manned mission will likely have a three-person crew entering the low Earth Orbit and will be carried out on board the indigenous Mark GSLV III launch vehicle.

On October 11, American Astronaut Nick Hague and Russian Cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin will launch to the International Space Station on a Russian Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Members of the global crew of a manned transportation spacecraft Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, NASA astronauts Andrew Feustel and Richard Arnold have become the members of the 56 expedition.

ISS astronauts are planning a spacewalk in November to gather more information on the hole.

"Special thanks to the crew of the 55th and 56th expeditions for their support and participation in our mission to explore outer space".

Feustel, 53, invoked Hollywood comedy actor Jack Black's character Nacho Libre as he tweeted farewell to life on the space station.

Thus, the duration of stay on the ISS crew expeditions 55/56 approximately 197 days.
