Melania Trump in Egypt to tour pyramids, Sphinx

Melania Trump in Egypt to tour pyramids, Sphinx

That title probably goes to the "I really don't care".

The first lady landed in Cairo Saturday where she was received by her Egyptian counterpart and later headed to the presidential palace.

Ms Trump's focus on wildlife stands in contrast to efforts by her husband to lift a ban on some elephant trophy imports, which created a public outcry previous year.

US first lady Melania Trump went on a short safari on Friday in Kenya, the third country on her almost week-long Africa tour.

The criticism was not universal. During a safari in Kenya, Trump donned a crisp white shirt, khaki trousers and high-boots and paired her outfit with a white pith helmet which many claimed is "evocative of colonialists", something that did not go down well on social media.

During their discussions at State House, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta gave the US First Lady a copy of Beyond Zero's strategic framework for 2018-2022 which she launched earlier in the year. The people love her, and she loves them! "It's exhausted and it's old and it's inaccurate", Dionne was quoted as saying.

On a day when President Trump tweeted comments calling anti-Kavanaugh demonstrators "paid professional protesters", the First Lady admitted she sometimes disagrees with his social media posts.

In each country on her visit, Melania Trump has seemed at ease, and perhaps happy to be out of Washington. "It's a lovely thing to see", he tweeted.

First lady Melania Trump has offered some supportive words for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh ahead of a final Senate vote expected Saturday on his confirmation. She administered them formula in oversized baby bottles, patted the animals on their heads and inspected their floppy ears. She emerged without a smudge.

With #FLOTUSinAfricaBingo many are documenting her "tone-deaf fashion" and stereotypes choices. Matthew Carotenuto, a historian at St. Lawrence University in NY, tweeted, "It's like showing up to a meeting of African-American cotton farmers in a Confederate uniform".

Kenya was the third stop on Mrs Trump's week-long tour of Africa, which her husband is said to have described as a continent of "shithole countries".

In Lilongwe, Malawi, her motorcade passed a sign that read "Welcome to Malawi".

But it was her attire which drew concern on Twitter, as she donned a white pith hat, with her riding pants and boots.

In other ways, Trump has seemed independent.

The president tweeted about his wife's visit this week saying she was doing a great job.

The first lady also stopped at a site where ivory burns take place - a conservationist effort meant to discourage the ivory trade. His administration has moved to lift a ban on some elephant trophy imports.
