Late Savea try seals stunning win for NZ

"I can talk about all the things that we did wrong in the last 10 minutes, but what about the things they did right".

The All Blacks came from 30-13 down to snatch the win but it is the effort that the Boks delivered in the first hour that would have planted some doubt in Kiwi minds that they aren't dead certs to win next year's Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The defining minutes were the last five when New Zealand twice set up lineouts five meters out from the Springboks line and twice showed deadly accuracy to score off them.

"Both teams were outstanding and across the two games we are split even on the scoreboard", New Zealand captain Kieran Read said at the post match presentation.

"The All Blacks usually hit back hard after a loss so we have to be mentally and physically ready for a massive contest", warned coach "Rassie" Erasmus.

"We did not have the territory and possession, but we hung in there and, especially when they got momentum, we came back".

"It could have easily been one we let go and allowed them to win, but they dug in deep and refused to give up".

Losing was a wake-up call for New Zealand, and centre Ryan Crotty said it dispelled a media view that the great All Blacks-Springboks rivalry had lost relevance. "We finally looked after the ball a little better and got into their half".

Erasmus changed three of the starters who repulsed waves of second-half Australian assaults to emerge 23-12 victors in Port Elizabeth last weekend.

It seemed nearly surreal that South Africa were dominating territory and possession against the world champions and Pollard kicked another penalty on 13 minutes for a six-point lead.

New Zealand needed 26 minutes to get a scoring opportunity and they took it with Beauden Barrett kicking a long-range angled penalty to halve the deficit.

The likely starting No.7 on tour will be Ardie Savea, who replaced Cane in the 35th minute on Saturday and impressed, going on to score the match-winning try in the dying stages.

Past year the All Blacks won by a point in Cape Town‚ the Boks won by two in the Kiwi capital last month‚ only for the All Blacks to return the favour in Pretoria.

Tries from Jesse Kriel and Damian de Allende early in the second half put the hosts in command and Cheslin Kolbe added a third after Aaron Smith had touched down at the other end, Pollard taking his tally with the boot to 15 points.

Nearly immediately, New Zealand retaliated with an Aaron Smith try and Mo'unga added the extra points.
