Saints QB Drew Brees is Closing in On NFL History

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Peyton Manning's all-time passing record of 71,940 yards during the second quarter of Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins. Shown on the video slicing tomatoes, Manning deadpanned that his time as the career yards passing leader have been "the greatest thousand days of my life".

A detailed view of a NFL logo on a football pylon as the Washington Redskins play the New Orleans Saints at FedExField on November 15, 2015 in Landover, Maryland. The record is now held by fellow great, Peyton Manning.

Asked if he's talked to current record-holder Peyton Manning yet or if he knows whether or not Manning will be at Monday night's game, Brees deflected again. He said he was "extremely grateful" to be in position to break the record but added that his focus going into game was on beating Washington, not setting the record.

This game also features the return of Adrian Peterson to New Orleans.

The person on the receiving end of the most passes from Brees is Marques Colston, who played his college ball at Hofstra, which no longer has a football program.

Saints officials said Brees also would hand his uniform over to the Hall of Fame after the game.

Head coach Sean Payton says he'll prepare his team like it's any other week.

Before Drew Brees could blow kisses to the adoring Superdome crowd, before he could embrace his wife and children on the sideline, the Saints' 39-year-old quarterback had to shred one of the NFL's top pass defenses with ruthless efficiency.

Jordan Reed wasn't targeted until midway through the third quarter and finished with one reception. In the press box, the Superdome catering staff served "beefy mac", a meal of macaroni with ground beef that has always been one of Brees' traditional meals on the night before games.
