Melania Trump: Women accusing men need to show 'really hard evidence'

During the 2016 election, Melania dismissed the accusations of sexual misconduct against her husband as political hit jobs.

ABC News' Chief National Affairs Correspondent Tom Llamas sat down with the first lady for a wide-ranging interview during her first solo trip overseas to Africa earlier this month.

Melania Trump says her help is being shunned by aid organizations because they don't want to be associated with her husband's administration. "We need to support them, and you know, also men, not just women".

Llamas said that some people might take the first lady's statement to mean that she doesn't actually support women.

When asked if men accused of sexual assault have been treated unfairly, Melania said women "need to have really hard evidence".

'Because sometimes the media goes too far and the way they portray some stories, it's not correct.

Mrs. Trump was interviewed on her Kenya trip by ABC, which aired portions Wednesday on "Good Morning America".

"I will move on that and I think that all the victims they need - we need to help all the victims no matter what kind of abuse they had, but I am against any kind of abuse or violence", she said. Kavanaugh denied those, as has Trump.

A main push of the First Lady's advocacy in office has centered around fighting cyber bullying, something which she's passionate about. "They don't have any facts", she had said.

Her comments come just days after Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh faced a controversial confirmation process after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 1982 during a high school party.
