Rocket’s first stage lands back at launch site

The Californian skies dazzled at night with a spectacular light show as SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was launched yesterday. SpaceX confirmed as much during its SAOCOM 1A webcast. Falcon 9 launch was the company 30th successful landing of the rocket booster.

SpaceX designs, manufactures, and launched advanced rockets and spacecrafts.

The rocket deployed Argentine satellite SAOCOM 1A into orbit approximately 12 minutes after its launch.

SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk also warned of the boom from his Twitter account.

Meanwhile a huge display of bright green Northern Lights appeared in the skies over Rovaniemi, in the Arctic Circle, on Sunday (October 7) evening.

Viewers took to social media to speculate on the rocket, which was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, which is about 130 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

If the mission goes according to plan, Sunday night will mark SpaceX's first landing of this sort on the West Coast.

SpaceX has always been trying to achieve ground landings on its Vandenberg facilities, which is named Space Launch Complex 4 (SLC-4 for short).

As The Verge noted, SpaceX hasn't been making sea landings by choice.

The second stage continued the flight to the satellite into a sun-synchronous orbit.

Saocom-1A has an L-band payload created to study soil moisture for agriculture, disaster monitoring and scientific research. It will also-in partnership with the Italian COSMO-SkyMed X-Band SAR constellation-assist with rapid response during natural disasters.

Those who knew they were watching a satellite launch posted videos they captured of the stunning spectacle, including one taken over the downtown Los Angeles skyline and a timelapse from Kern County.

Its name is short for Satelite Argentino de Observacion Con Microondas.
