Saudi royal family planned Khashoggi hit: NY Times

The news agency, quoting a diplomatic source said, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Ankara Waleed A M Elkhereiji was summoned to the Turkish foreign ministry on Sunday.

The Washington Post, for which the self-exiled Khashoggi wrote columns over the past year, pressed for release of evidence. "We have some concrete information, it won't be an unresolved crime", the Middle East Eye reported.

Khashoggi, an Al Watan and Washington Post journalist known for his strong critiques of authorities in Saudi Arabia and ruling Prince Mohammed bin Salman, had fled his home country a year ago to live in self-imposed exile in the United States.

American Senator Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said on Tuesday "everything today points to" Khashoggi's murder last week inside the Saudi consulate.

Paul told Kentucky radio station WHAS that he wants to end arms shipments to the Gulf kingdom if there's "any indication" that it was involved in killing Khashoggi.

On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the Saudi consulate "must and will" prove where Mr Khashoggi is, saying the Saudis "cannot save themselves" by claiming the outspoken journalist left the building.

The image shows the date and time (13:14) and bears a caption in Turkish with the journalist's name and that he was arriving at the consulate.

Saudi officials insist Khashoggi left shortly after he entered but his fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, who was waiting outside, says he never came out.

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed concern about the writer's disappearance, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said U.S. officials have raised the matter with their Saudi counterparts.

"I am concerned about it. I don't like hearing about it", Trump told reporters at the White House. For his part, Trump simply said, "Hopefully that will sort itself out". "Right now, nobody knows anything about it", he said.

Khashoggi's disappearance could put pressure on the Saudi prince, who has promoted an image of himself as a reformer and a reliable Western ally.

A Turkish official told the New York Times on the condition of anonymity that a team of Saudi agents killed the 59-year-old writer within two hours of his arrival at the consulate, and then dismembered his body with a bone saw they had brought for the goal.

Ben Saul, Professor of International Law at the University of Sydney, says that a host state can not interfere with consulate communications, and crates are deemed to be "diplomatic bags".

OSMAN ORSAL/REUTERS/NewscomNearly a week after the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi disappeared, suspicions are rising that the regime in Riyadh has silenced him.

"Violence against journalists is going up and is a grave threat to freedom of expression", he said.

Turkish officials have not stated how they determined that Khashoggi was killed at the consulate.

"We hope that he is safe and that we can hear from him soon". He has also said Turkey has no documents or evidence regarding the case.

While living in Saudi Arabia, Khashoggi was told to stop writing or posting on Twitter, where he has more than 1.6 million followers.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia has granted a request to allow Turkish investigators into the Istanbul consulate.

Searches of diplomatic buildings are incredibly rare - under worldwide law, the grounds of an embassy or consulate are considered to belong to the country that is represented there, not the host nation.
