Ross Barkley reveals World Cup 2018 frustration following England recall

"I'm playing a little bit more and that's important to me because it's important to adapt on the pitch by playing matches".

Klopp said players need a proper break to be fresher, pointing to the case of Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson who played for England at the World Cup in Russian Federation. I've worked hard over the last few months and it was important for me to make a strong start to the season and kick-on with a run in the team.

'I can't speak for Eden, ' he said.

Thinking back to the summer and the World Cup, of course I would've preferred to have been in Russian Federation with the lads, but sometimes you just have to accept where you're at. "I'd had a hard season through injuries and few little niggles".

I'm still only 24 though, so hopefully I have a lot of years ahead of me and I can be involved for all of them. "That is sometimes preferable to me in this phase than to play against the really small countries".

We won the European Championship that year and there's no better feeling than winning something with your country.

"We have a lot of talent in the squad that can produce magic at any point in the game and we have a confident bunch of lads and there is a lot of talent coming through". Don't write Chelsea out but they need a real "goal-getter". It was a big change for me, moving down to London because I'm a Liverpool lad through and through.

"It's a long, long way to go so I don't think anyone is getting too carried away". They will have their moments, but I thought we defended them brilliant - apart from the penalty and one or two situations, where we needed Alisson with a really good save.

But after playing eight games in the league, even Chelsea have emerged as title contenders.

"We were close more than ever to win here".

Their fixtures so far have include a victory over Tottenham and draws to City and Chelsea, but the 27-year-old believes that the Reds' performances against teams lower down in the division will be the deciding factor of the destination of the Premier League title.

"Joint top, I think at the start of the season you would have taken that all day long".

"In that situation they are much better than us".

So yes, it's great to be back again with England and I just want to keep improving and keep it going, starting with this week's games.
