Samsung's Galaxy A9 comes out swinging with four rear cameras

After having launched Galaxy A7 with triple rear camera set up, Samsung on Thursday unveiled Galaxy A9 (2018) with whopping four cameras on the back. But adding more cameras on phones seems a bit overkill right now, and reminds us of the days when handset vendors including Samsung would increase the number of megapixels every year as if more megapixels equaled a better camera experience. The first sensor is an ultra wide sensor with 120-degree field of view, f/2.4 aperture, and 8-megapixel resolution. You can pick this device up at all authorised Samsung retailers and you also get to choose from between four different colourways: Blue, Gold and Black.

Samsung has announced the Galaxy A9 with a rear camera system comprised of four sensors. There is now no pricing information available for the device.

The Galaxy A9 and it appears to be an improved version of the Galaxy A8 Star. The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) has four cameras on the back.

Memory hirs 4GB of RAM and storage starts at 128GB onboard, which can be upgraded to 512GB with a microSD card. For comparison's sake, the OnePlus 6 sports a 6.28-inch fullHD+ OLED panel, and a 3,300mAh battery, so it's battery lacks in capacity (by 500mAh) compared to the Galaxy A9's unit. That's a steep asking price for what the A9 offers though: it's actually higher than the £500 cap we use for our mid-range phone chart, and puts the A9 in direct competition with flagships like the £469 OnePlus 6 or £599 LG G7 ThinQ.

In terms of the rest of the build, there's only a single speaker, but you do at least get a headphone jack (with support for Dolby Atmos) along with USB-C for charging.

The cameras are also aligned on the left side of the phone, similar to that of the new Apple iPhone iPhone XS - but definitely much bigger. Samsung said the phone will be available in select markets from November. Read on to find out everything about this new Samsung smartphone.

The Galaxy A9 will be available in black, blue, or pink the United Kingdom starting in November at £549 (approximately $724) and in Europe for €599.
