Ryan Coogler Officially Signs On To Write & Direct

Black Panther has entered modern culture as the first black superhero movies (sorry Blade!), and went on to make $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office. It is unknown if "Black Panther 2" will now become his primary focus if he will still tries to squeeze that smaller film in.

And then, of course, there was Black Panther, which surpassed $700 million at the domestic box office, making the Ryan Coogler-directed feature the third movie ever to top that mark, behind only Avatar ($760M) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936M). Marvel now has three films lined-up in the coming year, which are Captain Marvel, Spider-Man Homecoming 2 and Avengers 4.

Marvel and Disney have made no announcement on the filming or release date for the sequel, but sources told The Hollywood Reporter Coogler would write the film next year and begin filming in late 2019 or early 2020.

In the meantime, Coogler is developing Wrong Answer, a drama film he will be directing with Michael B. Jordan starring. In the acclaimed film, T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to the hidden high-tech African nation of Wakanda to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king, following the death of his father.

Still, it's hugely exciting to learn that Black Panther 2 is now official, and that Coogler will be back to oversee things. He is also executive producing Jordan's Creed II sequel, as well as LeBron James' Space Jam sequel.
