Breast Cancer Survivor Shares Recovery Journal, Offers Advice for Those in Treatment

- A local woman has found a silver lining to her tough breast cancer battle. The American Cancer Society states that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, accounting for more than 1 in 8 cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S. citizens.

Clinical Nurse Specialist Addie Mitchell at Breast Cancer Care told The Sun that a majority of women don't regularly check their breasts, so having Alexa to guide them "will help empower many with the confidence to build this potentially lifesaving habit into their routine".

She said that the institute at PIMS has a dedicated all-female staff for diagnosis and treatment as women hesitate to undergo an examination under the supervision of male staff. Also known simply as the Breast Cancer Care App, BECCA is available on smart phones, tablets, and computers. "Globally, breast cancer awareness campaigns have been very successful but post-mastectomy recovery has yet to gain awareness". This can be due to the high incidence of breast cancer, growing awareness about early detection of breast cancer and rise in funds for breast cancer treatment by the government and also in the field of research and development. Additionally, data indicate that the incidence of breast cancer in India is rising.
