Pete Davidson praises 'strong' Ariana Grande as singer drops new song

Pete Davidson praises 'strong' Ariana Grande as singer drops new song

In the first verse she sings: 'And for Pete, I'm so thankful / Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm / 'cause he was an angel'.

Grande's song "Thank You, Next" included lyrics about Davidson.

Ariana Grande is just two months removed from the release of latest solo album, Sweetener, but the pop singer is already prepping a follow-up.

The tattoo-filled love of Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson seems to be fading fast; not only are the tattoos getting covered up, but Ari and Pete are also now very publicly going after each other. In his opening monologue, which featured a cameo by Candice Bergen and Drew Barrymore, Bergen referred to a drink she was having as a "Pete Davidson".

"Don't get me wrong, I'm not insane, I know I shouldn't be making fun of how anyone looks", Pete later said before his own picture was put on the screen. "The truth is, it's nobody's business, and sometimes things just don't work out and that's okay", the comedian said.

Then, the comic turned serious during Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" segment, saying, "I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world".

The NBC series previously referenced the breakup in a promo for the episode, featuring Davidson, host Jonah Hill and musical guest Maggie Rogers. "Now, please go vote on Tuesday".

Saturday Night Live airs weekly at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
