Amazon Offers Free Shipping for All This Holiday Season

"With hundreds of millions of items available for free shipping to all Amazon customers and more than three million items available with Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery, customers can enjoy the largest selection of items that are fast and free". Target dropped its $35 minimum for free two-day shipping during the holidays. While the perk lasts only for a "limited time", Amazon explains the promotion will affect orders that arrive in time for the Christmas holiday.

A few weeks ago, Target announced that it's going to offer customers free 2-day shipping during the holiday season, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with absolutely no requirements. The offer covers every product category, and although no end date is listed in the Amazon press release, orders arriving in time for Christmas suggests it will end around December 22 just like Target's offer does.

USA online retail sales in November and December will rise 14.8 percent, to $124 billion, software maker Adobe said last week in a forecast based on data from 80 of the 100 largest online retailers.

Although this move by Amazon will be a blow to both Target and Walmart, it just goes to show why competition in the market is so important for consumers.

Even though over half of all U.S. households now have Prime memberships, Amazon would undoubtedly like to convert even more consumers to paid subscribers.

Amazon needs to pump up sales after the company's revenue projection for the remainder of the year fell below some Wall Street analysts' estimates.

Bottom line: Buy one of over 100 million items you want on Amazon and get free shipping without having to spend $25 now up until Christmas. The company usually sets the final date toward the end of the season. Amazon is making more than three million items eligible for same-day delivery for the holidays.
