Amazon HQ2 to be split evenly between two cities

Amazon HQ2 to be split evenly between two cities

Amazon, based in Seattle, is apparently seriously considering an area known as Crystal City.

And now it ends up Amazon may decide on creating an HQ2 and HQ3.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon may be contemplating spitting the coveted second headquarters, dubbed HQ2, between two different metros.

Amazon's HQ2 gained attention as one of the biggest corporate projects in the U.S., with the e-retailer planning to hire 50,000 workers and spend $5 billion.

A group of developers has already purchased a site in Dallas.

The pivot to two additional headquarters is reportedly driven by Amazon's insatiable appetite for tech talent.

"You could look to Seattle and see that it's had great positive consequences, but it also probably has had some unintended ones that maybe aren't as well received", SunTrust Robinson Humphrey Inc. real-estate analyst Michael Lewis said.

The report was published by The Wall Street Journal, and they cite "people familiar with the matter".

Both cities could get 25,000 employees, splitting in half the expected 50,000 employees HQ2 could bring. Two of the biggest known packages include Montgomery County, Maryland, which offered $8.5 billion in incentives, and Newark, New Jersey, which offered $7 billion.

The business publication says Amazon may make the announcement this week.

Amazon's plans, the Journal reported, would place about 25,000 workers in each city, a move created to give the company a greater ability to attract talented workers.

Many reporters quickly reacted on Twitter to the Journal story, with some joking about naming conventions.
