Virat Kohli causes uproar with 'leave India' comment

India captain Virat Kohli has been facing the heat on social media over his recent "Leave India" statement to a fan.

Kohli's response sparked a huge controversy among the social media users with the majority criticising the Indian cricket team skipper for his comment.

"Virat needs to understand that if the fans go away to other countries, then no Puma etc. will want to sign him for Rs100 crores". Instead of naming Indian cricketer like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly or Rahul Dravid as his favourite, Kohli chose an overseas player.

Earlier on Wednesday, during the promotion of his newly-launched mobile application, -'Virat Kohli Official App", where he was responding to fans' opinions of him, one of them had termed his batting "overrated'.

Following which the Indian captain replied: "Okay, I don't think you should live in India then, you should go and live somewhere else no".

While adding that he didn't mind any sort of dislike towards him, the Indian skipper felt that one should get his priorities sorted before posting such comments. I loved to watch Sunil Gavaskar bat, but also loved watching (Gordon) Greenidge, (Desmond) Haynes and Viv Richards. "I enjoy watching English and Australian batsmen more than these Indians".

"I think this has to do with respecting cricketing excellence without any thoughts about geographical or political boundaries", he continued. He had also said, "Over-rated batsman". He should walk the talk and support the BCCI's partners rather than focusing on private endorsements. Before the ODI series against the West Indies, he was very impressive on the England tour where he scored more than 500 runs even as his teammates struggled.
