CC Sabathia, Yankees Agree On 1-Year Contract

CC Sabathia is headed back to the Yankees.

Sabathia has gone 129-80 with a 3.74 ERA in his 10 seasons with the Yankees, and was the MVP of the 2009 ALCS.

"This will be it", the 38-year-old left-hander said in a video posted on Twitter on Wednesday after the New York Yankees finalized his $8 million, one-year contract.

GM Brian Cashman decided the Yankees needed Sabathia, who was the starter and losing pitcher to the Red Sox in Game 4 of the ALDS, the game that ended the Yankees season.

An ejection in his final start of the regular season cost Sabathia a $500,000 bonus that he would have earned for reaching 155 innings pitched. He previously played for the Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers.

We appear to have our first free agent signing of the offseason, though this isn't exactly Earth-shattering news. He's never pitched more than 160.1 innings since making his Major League Baseball debut in 2013. I'm interested in adding more than one pitcher.

"I would think that there'll be a lot of interest in him", Cashman said.

Said Cashman: "He's been a great Yankee and he has some time on the clock still". After that, Sonny Gray is likely to be traded soon.

Eight days after the Boston Red Sox won their fourth World Series title in 15 seasons - compared to one in that span for New York - Cashman arrived at the annual general managers' meetings searching for pitching. He's the youngest of the three pitchers and has two more years of arbitration before he can become a free agent in 2021.

It was an easy reunion for the Yankees and their big lefty, who made it clear on the eve of the team's Game 4 loss in the ALDS that NY was where he wanted to be.
