Recount: Scott attorneys demand answers from Broward County, FDLE launches investigation

Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes was being sued by Florida Gov. Rick Scott's senate campaign and the National Republican Senatorial Committee for alleged "incompetence" because she has not formally announced how many votes were left to count. Bill Nelson. That's 0.18 percent of the vote total, well under the 0.25 difference, now at 20,436 votes, triggering a hand recount.

If the machine recount shows a less than one-quarter of one percent difference between the candidates, a manual recount is done of these over-votes and under-votes, and local canvassing boards call in counting teams to attempt to determine the will of the voter.

If you filed a provisional ballot on Election Day you can attend the meeting of the canvassing board and provide proof so your vote should be counted.

Two of the highest profile races in the country - both in Florida - are likely headed to a recount soon. By 3:30 a.m. Scott's lead over incumbent Sen. If the result is the same but above 0.25 points, the count is official.

The tide turned Thursday when Caldwell was down by more than 500 votes and Fried had pulled ahead, according to the Florida Division of Elections' unofficial election night results.

The race during Tuesday's midterm U.S. election was one of America's most-watched, with the outgoing governor Scott mounting a tough challenge against three-time incumbent Nelson.

If a recount does happen, it would be the first for a gubernatorial race in Florida history, according to Florida political reporter Marc Caputo, and Gillum could soon join a tiny club of politicians to have conceded a race and then withdrawn that concession. "We believe that at the end of this process that Senator Nelson is going to be declared the victor and is going to return to the United States Senate".

As New Times noted yesterday, the person in charge of handling such a recount is none other than Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner, a Scott appointee who has been repeatedly accused of hatching schemes to prevent young people, Democrats, and people of color from voting.

The gubernatorial race is arguably a bigger deal.

"A significant number of ballots have not yet been counted and, because of the size of Florida, we believe the results of the election are unknown and require a recount", Elias said in a statement Wednesday.

"Rick Scott will be the next U.S. Senator from the state of Florida".

"They are not handwriting experts", he said.

Andrew Gillum, a Democrat, conceded to Ron DeSantis, a Republican, late Tuesday night, shortly before The Associated Press called the race for DeSantis.

"He is desperately trying to hold on to something that no longer exists", said Chris Hartline, a spokesman from Scott campaign.

Scott and Nelson, meanwhile, have hired lawyers and have demanded information on those who cast provisional ballots on Tuesday.

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio released a thread of tweets Thursday, saying there shouldn't still be issues with counting votes in South Florida if the portion of the state that was affected by the hurricane managed to have its votes counted in time.

His campaign says it's preparing for a recount and will have observers in every one of the state's 67 counties to monitor the process.

He claims they have both failed to provide information about outstanding ballots have yet to be counted.

The official certification of the elections is to take place November 20, when the state's elections canvassing commission meets.

Election officials in other Florida counties may have disclosed the identities of which voters cast provisional ballots, however. "Nelson will prevail in a recount", he said.

He added: "We're doing this not just because it's automatic, but we're doing it to win".
