Xiaomi launches in Britain with flagship device

The company prides itself on replicating the technologies pioneered by its rivals in more affordable handsets, and has swiftly risen to become the fourth-largest smartphone maker globally. This year, though, it would appear that things may take a turn for the better, as a new leak detailing Xiaomi's Android Pie roadmap surfaced earlier.

Xiaomi has launched its smartphone range in the UK.

That is now changing as today, Xiaomi held an event in London to celebrate the company's official launch in the UK.

According to the leak, the Mi Mix 2, Mi 8 SE, Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer, Mi 8 Pro, and Poco F1 are all set to receive the updates to Pie before the end of the year, with a Q4 2018 rollout being specified.

Xiaomi has confirmed that it will begin selling phones and smart home devices in the United Kingdom. The Beijing OEM also reaffirmed its plans to open the first Mi store in the region in London's enormous Westfield shopping center on November 18. I have to say, it looks incredibly cool - move over colour gradients, I want a transparent phone! "It features a 6.21" AMOLED display with a notch that pushes a Full HD+ resolution.

For exmaple, the Redmi 6 with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of inbuilt storage and a dual-camera with 12MP and 5MP sensors will drop from £149 to £129. A big part of the camera system, and a growing trend in the smartphone market, is also the AI scene recognition, which can detect up to 25 objects/scenarios and optimises the image accordingly. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor clocked at 2.8GHz, along with Adreno 630 GPU. The 3000mAh battery does seem like a relatively small size for a modern-day phone, though, so it will be interesting to test how long this can actually last in a real-world environment. The Mi 8 Pro was previously launched in China, and soon after, which the company started teasing the global roll-out of the phone, and considering India is one of the most important countries for Xiaomi, we expect the phone will be coming to the country soon.
