Huawei threatening Samsung for global smartphone market share lead

Huawei Nova 4 could end up being the first smartphone to launch with a display hole for the front camera.

BOE is said to supply the LCD display for both Samsung and Huawei, but the Samsung Galaxy A8s display is said to be superior compared to Huawei Nova 4, only time will tell. The hole is placed on the top left corner of the screen.

There's no doubt the Nova 4 is real. That is not unusual for the Chinese market, companies tend to use their spokespersons to market their phones even before they go announced, even TV ads appear on TV before some phones get announced, which is definitely not a custom in the west. This fantastic phone was launched in India at an event held earlier this week.

As far as camera is concerned, it sports a Leica triple rear camera setup with a primary 40-megapixel wide angle lens with f/1.8 aperture, a 20-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and then a third 8-megapixel 3X telephoto sensor with an aperture of f/2.4.

The Mate 20 Pro has 6.39-inch curved OLED display (3120 x 1440 resolution) with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Huawei Nove 4 is expected to run the Kirin 980 processor, that has been seen on Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Honor Magic 2. For selfies, the device boasts of a 24-megapixel RGB selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and support for 3D facial unlocking.

On the sidelines, Huawei rival Samsung is working on a similar display design called the Infinity-O display.

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei launched its flagship smartphone Mate 20 Pro, in India on November 27.

Samsung have been teasing their new notch solutions for a few weeks now but it looks like Huawei are set to arrive at the display hole first according to a teaser sent out today.
