Tyler Perry Surprises Layaway Shoppers At Two Atlanta-Area Walmarts

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Perry was inspired by a segment on "Good Morning America" about Secret Santas that have paid off layaways in Vermont, Colorado, New York, Pennslyvania, and Louisiana. Perry, who was born in Louisiana, has owned a home in the Atlanta area for years.

On Thursday, Perry shared a Twitter video telling his followers that if they had layaways at the Walmart locations in East Point, Georgia, or Douglasville, Georgia, to go pick them up - as they'd been paid off. To get the layaway, customers must pay a penny.

Perry said he had planned to remain anonymous, but "due to some circumstances" news of the generous act leaked, and he made a decision to post a video on Twitter revealing which stores' layaway tabs he paid.

"I know it's a hard time, a lot of people are struggling and I'm just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this", Perry said in the video, adding that his intention had originally been for his contribution to remain anonymous. "So, God bless you, go get your stuff". Eastern Time on Thursday, Dec. 6.

Tyler Perry paid off more than $400,000 worth of layaways at two Georgia Walmart stores.

Tyler admitted he wanted for his act of charity to be anonymous, but given that "nothing can stay secret", he felt the need to announce his good deed.
