Candies May be Contaminated With Hepatitis A

Candies May be Contaminated With Hepatitis A

US food regulators said candy sold by a Kentucky-based firm and QVC is being voluntarily recalled out of fear that it may be contaminated with hepatitis A.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning to consumers about certain sweets made in Kentucky that could be contaminated with hepatitis A, a highly contagious liver disease, the New York Post reported.

They say the concern stems from a worker at the facility who reportedly tested positive for the disease.

According to the CDC, the best way to prevent the disease is to get vaccinated with the hepatitis A vaccine.

The administration also advised that anyone who has consumed the product should consult with a doctor as a precaution. The FDA is working with Bauer's sweets on a voluntary recall, the company added, including the sweets had been primarily bought by QVC and the corporate's web site.

The FDA is recommending that anyone who ate Bauer's Candies Chocolate or Caramel Modjeskas purchased after November 14 consult with their healthcare provider to determine whether PEP is indicated.

In a statement on Bauer's website, it said the employee worked in the facility from November 16-23. These agencies have cleared us to continue operation.

Already in 2019, we have the latest recall of Bauer's sweets that are manufactured in Kentucky. Symptoms can take up to 50 days to appear. Young children, however, may not show symptoms. While the risk of contamination is extremely low, the FDA is recommending that anyone who purchased the sweets after November 14th throw them away rather than consuming them. The virus is most commonly spread by consuming contaminated food or water.
