Craig McLachlan charged with assault and sex offences by police

In November past year, a preliminary hearing of the defamation case was told McLachlan declined to participate in an interview with Victoria Police as part of their investigation into the allegations of assault and indecent assault.

Known for playing Henry Ramsey in the soap in the 80s, the 53-year old has now been charged with the crimes by police in Victoria.

One of Australia's leading musical performers, Christie Whelan Browne, who performed the lead role of Janet during the 2014 Rocky Horror tour, has told police that McLachlan indecently assaulted her during the show.

McLachlan won the Gold Logie in 1990 as the most popular personality on Australian television.

His legal team said last May that since the allegations, McLachlan has become reclusive and his acting career has been effectively destroyed.

McLachlan is seeking $6.5 million in special damages, and his defamation hearing is set down for four weeks from February 4.

Three months later, Seven dropped McLachlan from the Doctor Blake Mysteries series.

McLachlan, famous for his starring roles in the Doctor Blake Mysteries, Neighbours and Home and Away was charged on summons to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on February 8, 2019.
