Kevin Hart confirms he won’t host the Oscars

Commenting on the backlash around the support he received from openly gay chat show host DeGeneres, Hart said: "It shows me that there is no ending to it".

Variety reports that the annual awards show will forgo a host this year after comedian and actor Kevin Hart dropped out in the wake of controversial statements he had previously made on Twitter.

In an emotional interview last Friday, DeGeneres revealed to Hart that she lobbied the Academy for him to be brought back.

Strahan then made a point to highlight to Hart that it was obvious that he was purposefully diverting from answering his questions directly.

"I'm over it. There's no more conversation about it ..." I'm talking about today.

"I'm not giving no more explanation of who I am", he added. Had the Academy just kept silent and not demanded that Kevin Hart issue a public apology over past jokes that some LGBT community members found offensive, the Oscars would be on its way to a ratings blowout. I'm a good person.

"I would like to call myself a perfectionist, so when I do something I want to be able to give it my all".

Hart added it's "hard to predict what can happen". Moreover, I think the Oscars should be trying to appeal to serious movie lovers, not people who may or may not tune in to see Lady Gaga perform.

"If you didn't [hear the apology], I don't know what you're looking for. I'm not addressing it anymore".

But, of course, there was still some time, right? You've already expressed that it's not being educated on the subject, not realizing how unsafe those words are, not realizing how many kids are killed for being gay or beaten up every day ...

Thoughts, Perezcious readers? Are we collectively letting go of this controversy, or does Kevin need to prove he's honest in his apology just a bit more? I know that I've addressed it.

"You will not hear me say anything else about it", he insisted during his GMA interview.

That doesn't mean he's shutting down the possibility of hosting the Oscars another year.

"I really had to dive into the whole thing - even the tweets", Hart said of his past remarks.
