Fellow Dems Chastise Ocasio-Cortez: ‘She Doesn’t Understand How the Place Works’

She continued her Twitter feud with Kraushaar well into Sunday, suggesting a scenario in which CBS hired an entire team of non-white journalists.

Veterans of the Democratic establishment, unsettled by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's lack of deference to seniority and party unity, have cautioned the freshman lawmaker to direct her potent social-media attacks toward Republicans rather than centrist Democrats.

Ocasio-Cortez, who describes herself as a "democratic socialist" has become the face of a new younger and more "woke" demographic focused on fixing systemic problems in the country. Incumbent Democrats are especially concerned about her threat to support primary opponents against party members she feels are too moderate, according to Politico.

"I'm sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there's nearly an outstanding rule: Don't attack your own people", veteran Missouri Rep. Emanuel Cleaver said. 'Honestly, if the Democrats had 3 more of her, Americans would run away so fast that we'd have a power monopoly until she's Lieberman's age'.

"If you look at the majority of new Democrats in the house, they tend to be, I say, center-left, if they are not left-left", he said. "She doesn't understand how the place works yet".

Additionally, Ocasio-Cortez accused: President Trump "he has a proven track record of discrimination against anybody who's really non-white in the United States" predating his 2016 election to the White House. "Others simultaneously warn Ocasio-Cortez is destined for a lonely, ineffectual career in Congress if she continues to treat her own party as the enemy".

"Just as congressional Republicans constantly withhold criticism of the president out of fear he'll unleash a tweet at them, some Democrats have done the same with Ocasio-Cortez", Politico reported.

A message left with her Washington office wasn't returned.

"A bartender from the Bronx has been able to create a litmus test around climate and economic policy for every 2020 Democrat", said Waleed Shahid, who was one of Ocasio-Cortez's early campaign advisers and is now communications director for Justice Democrats, a liberal activist group.
