Maroon 5 to play Super Bowl halftime show

"I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in", Scott said in a statement obtained by Billboard and Variety. "I know being an artist that it's in my power to inspire".

This confirmation comes after reports that Jay-Z, Cardi B, and Rihanna said no to performing at the Super Bowl as a show of solidarity with former National Football League player Colin Kaepernick.

The petition reads in part: "Until the league changes its policy and supports players' constitutional right to protest, no artists should agree to work with the NFL".

It's an unusually late move for the organisation, which typically has the musical act lined up for months, to make an official announcement during the second week of the playoffs - less than a month before the big game. It showed concert footage of the group and included scenes with rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi, who will appear as special guests during the high-profile performance. Acts like Cardi B or Rihanna REFUSED to participate at this year's halftime show for this reason. Of course, Scott's also had a pretty wonderful year in his personal life as well - he welcomed his first child, daughter Stormi, with girlfriend Kylie Jenner in February. So if Travis wanted to be on that show and not look bad, he had so something, hence this social justice cause massive donation he got out of the NFL.

Maroon Five and Big Boi marked the occasion by sharing his excitement via Twitter.

Once considered a coveted gig by major musicians, many have reportedly turned down the opportunity to perform this year. Actress Amy Schumer had also, in October past year, appealed to the band to pull out of performing, in what is the most-watched show on television. I don't want this to be another Coldplay boring moment.
