Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren launches 2020 presidential bid

Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is officially a contender for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

Warren was introduced by a few members of Congress who also endorsed her, including Massachusetts Sen.

Weeks after announcing her exploratory committee, Warren's announcement in MA today kicked off her campaign in what's shaping up to be a large Democratic field running against President Donald Trump.

Warren's announcement comes a little more than one month after she announced an exploratory committee, the first step major candidates take when considering a run for president.

She said Trump is not the cause of what is broken in America, just the latest symptom.

"When I talk about this, some rich guys scream 'class warfare!' Well, let me tell you something, these same rich guys have been waging class warfare against hard-working people for decades - I say it's time to fight back." she said.

"Lawrence has a history of working people coming together to make change, where the fight was hard, the battle was uphill, and where a group of women led the charge for all of us", Warren said in a video promoting her announcement.

Warren said, "We are here to take on a fight that will shape our lives, our children's lives, and our grandchildren's lives, just as surely as the fight that began in these streets more than a century ago".

"I can't go back", Warren told The Washington Post.

How much effect the negative headlines will have on her in a crowded field will likely depend on how, or whether, Warren can put the controversy behind her. "I am in that fight all the way", she said.

The Cherokee Nation blasted Warren for the test, which they said was a false claim to tribal membership, leading the senator to apologise.

The 69-year-old from the U.S. state of MA has already become a main target of Trump, who has dubbed Warren "Pocahontas" for previously identifying herself as a Native American, a controversy that has plagued the run-up to her candidacy.

"Elizabeth Warren has already been exposed as a fraud by the Native Americans she impersonated and disrespected to advance her professional career, and the people of MA she deceived to get elected", campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement.

She has been forced to apologise for claiming on several occasions in her early political career that she was of Native American descent.

However, when all is said and done, almost two dozen Democrats are expected to enter the fray, with others like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, former Vice President Joe Biden, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley, California Congressman Eric Swalwell and former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke having signaled they're considering a run. But I want to be clear.

The Boston Globe first reported Kennedy's endorsement on Friday.

She notched a second viral moment in 2017 after Republican majority leader Mitch McConnell struggled to cut off a floor speech in which Warren was criticizing attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions.

Her platform includes a tax on the richest 75,000 Americans.
