Enes Kanter waived by the Knicks | Lexington Herald Leader

If the Knicks don't find a trade partner for Kanter by the trade deadline Thursday, Kanter could reach a buyout agreement with NY. The former Kentucky big man is making $18.6 million this year, but his contract is set to expire.

The Knicks have talked to teams about potential Kanter trades for the past several weeks, but his contract has proved hard to move.

Then again, the Celtics were OK with adding the defensively challenged Greg Monroe past year, and he ended up averaging 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds a game in limited minutes before being relegated to mostly garbage time and DNPs in the playoffs.

Kanter has appeared in just three of the Knicks' last 12 games. "Each day I spend in the National Basketball Association is a blessing and I look forward to my next adventure", Kanter said. Smith an intriguing player, but still unproven with an interesting upside and visible downside.

The Boston Celtics could have interest in New York Knicks center Enes Kanter if he is bought out, per ESPN's Ian Begley. He's also strong on the glass and can get offensive rebounds. The trade deadline passed without action on Kanter.

That said, the native of Turkey - who has made headlines because of a political feud with that country's president - will have a new home soon enough, there will be teams interested. The Orlando Magic expressed interest in Frank Ntilikina but were told that NY was not trading the second-year guard, sources told ESPN.

Some speculate the move positions the Knicks to acquire not one but two big-ticket free agents this offseason, such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
