5 minors charged in deadly shooting of Nashville musician

Nashville police arrested five juveniles Friday in the fatal shooting of a popular local musician, PEOPLE confirms.

On Friday, Metropolitan Nashville Police arrested Roniyah McKnight, 14, Diamond Lewis, 15, and Decorrius Wright, 16, along with a 12- and 13-year-old, whose names were not released due to their age. While names of the two youngest suspects, including a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, were not released due to their age.

According to investigators, the group was in a stolen Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck in an alley behind the home of Kyle Yorlets when the group saw him outside.

The minors accosted the man, took his wallet and demanded the keys to his vehicle, which he refused to hand over, prompting the suspects to open fire on him, police stated. "It is believed that he was fatally shot after he refused", according to police.

The pickup truck was found abandoned on Timberland Drive, which is south of the airport.

After Yorlets was shot, he managed to make it back inside his home, where he was found by a housemate. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical center where he was later pronounced dead.

They soon discovered Snapchat posts showing the girl in a vehicle "with other young people with guns", the newspaper said.

Yorlets was a member of the Nashville-based band Carverton.

The band shared an emotional statement on Facebook after learning about Yorlets' death.

According to Mail Online, the district attorney will decide if the juveniles will be charged as adults.

"On February 7, 2019 we lost our brother, best friend, and bandmate Kyle Yorlets". 'We are heartbroken. Our condolences for his family and loved ones and all the lives that he touched.

During the search, the girl was seen in a Snapchat video in a auto "with other young people with guns". "We will never forget Kyle, and though he is gone too soon his legacy is here to stay", the band said.

Yorlets was a Belmont University graduate, originally from Pennsylvania, police said.

A GoFundMe has been established to help with funeral costs and travel expenses for Yorlets' family.
