China hits out at Modi after his visit to Arunchal Pradesh

"The Chinese government has never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader's visit to the eastern section of the Sino-Indian border".

India on Saturday strongly reiterated its claims on Arunachal Pradesh, after China objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the frontier state.

TDP supporters were ready with thousands of black balloons to greet Modi after Naidu urged party workers to register their protest against the PM's visit by staging black flag demonstrations. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Chinese side was aware of India's sensibilities regarding the issue.

Prime Minister Modi Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects in Arunachal Pradesh worth over Rs 4,000 crore and said his government was giving a lot of importance to improve connectivity in the border state. He said the PM's silence on the Rs 59,000 crore Rafale deal and reports on the possibility of India's biggest defence scam directly involving the PMO, speaks volumes about the BJP government's destructive decisions.

He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi.

He will also address a mass rally here.

Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met a number of times a year ago to give impetus to trade discussions.

PM Modi had tweeted back then that there was a "perceptible improvement" in India-China relations and that regular interactions had added "significant strength" to the bilateral ties.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying in response to a question on Modi's visit said, "China's position on the China-India boundary question is consistent and clear-cut. The clearance for Modi's visit was given by the special protection group on 8 February for the meeting titled "Praja Chaitanya Sabha", which will be held at the Etukuru bypass near Guntur city on Sunday", said the senior TDP leader quoted above.
