Shock as Nantes demand Sala transfer fee from Cardiff

A Southampton fan was detained for making a plane gesture during the game against Cardiff City earlier tonight.

However, while Mr Sala's body was found in the wreckage after a private search was launched, Mr Ibbotson's body has yet to be recovered.

'Such behaviour has no place in our game and will not be tolerated at St Mary's.

Southampton have promised to ban supporters involved in mocking the death of Emiliano Sala by making aeroplane gestures during their match at home to Cardiff City on Saturday.

The club further maintained they will not condone such indecent gestures towards Cardiff supporters.

"The families of Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news.", the force said in a statement.

On the page, the family of Mr Ibbotson, from Crowle, said: "As a family we are trying to come to terms with the tragedy and the loss of two incredible men".

David Ibbotson of North Lincolnshire was flying the Cardiff City player from Nantes to the United Kingdom when their plane crashed near Guernsey on 21 January.

Argentine footballing idols Diego Maradona and Gabriel Batistuta also paid tribute to Sala, 28.

Earlier today, the club registered a 2-1 win as Kenneth Zohore scored a dramatic injury-time victor against Southampton.

The two clubs, Cardiff City and Nantes are preparing to fight a legal suit over Sala's £15m transfer fee.

"When something like this happens it brings all the football family together", he said.

The Premier League player's former French club, Nantes, said it was withdrawing the jersey with Sala's number 9 on it and all Ligue 1 and 2 matches in France this weekend will be preceded by a minute of applause for him.
