Measurable snow and sleet tonight into Tuesday

Snow will overspread the area during the mid/late morning on Tuesday, with all of us seeing snow by around noon.

The sun was out Sunday morning but the National Weather Service says snow will return late in the afternoon into the evening across the Northwest.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the entire state for a period of snow, followed by a change to wintry mix and rain. Snow becomes likely by 10 p.m. Snow continues through the night and into tomorrow morning.

With temperatures already in the teens or single digits, meteorologists predict low temperature records could be broken on Sunday.

It was 9 degrees Fahrenheit in Arlington, Washington early on Sunday.

The amount of precipitation will depend on the weather system's exact path, and "how for north the milder air can get into southern Ontario", said the statement. Friday looks like another round of snow, but it does look like most will be above 500 feet, so more in the hills and foothills than in Seattle. As the low pressure pulls away to the east Tuesday, northwest winds will strengthen gusting over 35 miles per hour and snow will gradually end from west to east later Tuesday/Tuesday evening.

Residents cleared out grocery store shelves and left work early Friday afternoon as the storm arrived. Even though we won't be down to freezing in DC, a little sleet on the roads could still cause some slippery spots overnight and early Monday morning. There's a possibility of around an inch of snow and sleet accumulation possible.

A massive 20-mile stretch of the Interstate 90 highway was closed due to the bad weather, and people have been warned to stay off the roads.

About 200 flights were canceled at Seattle-Tacoma and Portland worldwide airports on Saturday, roughly matching the number of Friday cancellations.
