Priyanka Gandhi Vadra debuts on Twitter, trumps BSP chief Mayawati

The Congress on Monday announced that its newly appointed AICC General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had made her debut on Twitter. Priyanka is a big hope for the party in the make-or-break state of Uttar Pradesh ahead of Lok Sabha polls. "The state's farmers want Rahul Gandhi to be prime minister, Priyanka to be chief minister".

Weeks after Priyanka Gandhi's formal entry into politics, BJP parliamentarian Harish Dwivedi on Saturday took a dig at the Congress leader while invoking her choice of dresses in a demeaning way.

But her so-called "mission" is to revive the Congress in a state that has been pushed to the margins - and it is no easy job.

Posters of Priyanka lined the streets of the state capital, Lucknow, and hundreds of Congress supporters, accompanied by drummers, chanted her name as she emerged from the airport with her brother.

"Come align with us and bring change to Uttar Pradesh", he said. "I have hope in my heart that together we will start a new kind of politics, a politics in which all of you will be stakeholders - my young friends, my sisters and even the weakest person, all their voices will be heard", Priyanka Gandhi is heard saying in the audio message shared through the Congress's Shakti App and phone calls to voters.

Priyanka Gandhi has been tasked with reviving the party in UP.

The profile photo of the official Twitter account of Priyanka has her in a maroon cotton sari with a three-fourth sleeved blouse while waving at the crowd.

Since the announcement of Priyanka's entry into politics, India's financial crime-fighting agency Enforcement Directorate has questioned her husband, Robert Vadra, in a case relating to alleged ownership of 1.9 million pounds ($2.45 million) of undisclosed assets overseas.

From 21 seats in the 2009 general election in Uttar Pradesh, Congress' tally fell to just two in 2014.
