Sarri wants new players - if he keeps his job

Chelsea are set to stick with manager Maurizio Sarri despite alarmingly inconsistent results and the thrashing by Manchester City.

Chelsea have a temporary reprieve from the Premier League in that period, due to the quirk of the League Cup final against City falling on a weekend of league fixtures.

"My job is here", Lampard told a Derby press conference on Monday, quoted by the Evening Standard.

Maurizio Sarri's job has come under serious threat after his Chelsea side were hammered 6-0 by Manchester City and slipped out of the top 4 positions in the League.

He added: "With my Chelsea hat on, you have a feeling for it and it's not nice".

"I don't think that will happen, I don't think he [Sarri] will walk [away from Chelsea]", Clement said on beIN Sports Soccer Sunday.

Lampard, Chelsea's all-time leading scorer with 211 goals, said he was focused on doing his best for Derby and backed Chelsea to bounce back quickly from the defeat, which pushed them down to sixth in the table.

"And what I do know for sure is the club will not accept that, the owner will not accept that and history shows that when the team is not playing at the level that is required and expected for a club like that, what they have achieved over the years, they do take measures. It is what makes top teams, resilience, and Chelsea as a club will have it". Sarri was confident the players were picking up his philosophy early in the season when they went on an 18-game unbeaten run, but in the space of 10 days they conceded four away to Bournemouth and then the embarrassing six against Premier League leaders City.

They are also through to the FA Cup fifth round, where they face Brighton on Saturday.
