5-Star Recruit Anthony Edwards Commits to Georgia

Nowadays, we have become accustomed to major names coming out of highly publicized schools making their claims to attend the Goliathic powerhouses like Duke or Kentucky, but Edwards chose to shift the paradigm a little bit and make his decision exclusively off of two factors: an easy commute for the Atlanta native and new Georgia coach Tom Crean's extensive relationship with two other National Basketball Association stars.

The Georgia campus in Athens is near his Atlanta home. "I want to put the state school back on the basketball map".

"Two of my favorite players, Dwyane Wade and Victor Oladipo, were coached by Tom Crean", Edwards told 247Sports' Evan Daniels after announcing his choice.

Meanwhile, Edwards has already made his official visits to Georgia and Kentucky on December 1, 2018 and January 21, 2019 respectively.

Crean, in his first season coaching the Bulldogs, coached Wade at Marquette and Oladipo at Indiana. He says his decision was influenced by "everybody showing love" on his unofficial visit at a Georgia game. He should be projected as a top three selection for the 2020 NBA Draft at the absolute worst. "On my visit we watched film together, and he talks with so much energy".

"There's no reason if you're in the state of Georgia that you need to go anywhere else, " Crean said Monday.

Georgia has landed one of the most coveted 5-star recruits as prized shooting guard Anthony Edwards has officially committed to join the school as part of it's 2019 recruiting class.

All reputable recruiting service websites have the young man slotted as a five-star recruit, while most agree he's no lower than being the second best (many have him No. 1 overall) player in the entire 2019 recruiting class.

A few of the notable programs that weren't included in the finalists for Edwards were the Florida Gators, Kansas Jayhawks, Michigan State Spartans, Memphis Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Virginia Cavaliers, and UNC Tar Heels.
