World number one Naomi Osaka in shock split with coach

Bajin became the first recipient of the WTA Coach of the Year award after helping Osaka take her game to new heights in a breakthrough 2018.

Bajin, the 2018 WTA Coach of the Year, publicly responded, thanking the 21-year-old via his personal Twitter account.

"I will no longer be working together with Sascha".

Naomi Osaka has sensationally split with coach Sascha Bajin a little more than two weeks after she won the Australian Open and assumed the world No.1 ranking.

Despite her success alongside Bajin, Osaka confirmed the pair has parted ways on Twitter.

" Thanks to my team, I don't think I would have made it through this week without you. Thank you for letting me be part of this", he said. He is a former hitting partner of Grand Slam champions Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki.

The US based player has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the big time after leaping from 72 in the world to number one in the past 12 months after beginning to work with Bajin in the off-season of 2017.

Some fans pointed out that she had not named him in her speech after her win at the Australian Open.

The 21-year-old beat Petra Kvitova in three sets in the Australian Open final on January 26.

Osaka is the first player from Asia to grace the top of the women's or men's world tennis rankings.
